About Us
Our Story
Originally located in a small farm shed at Botley Hill Farmhouse, with barely enough room to swing a cask, Titsey Brewing Co was started as a one-man band microbrewery in 2017 by founder and head brewer Craig Vroom.
Tried and tested at two picturesque country inns in Surrey including the Botley Hill Farmhouse, Titsey Brewing Co’s beers can now be found in pubs, farm shops and beer shops across the Surrey and Kent area.
Towards the end of 2018, Titsey Brewing Co ran a successful crowdfunding campaign which enabled Craig to secure larger brewing kit and expand into the “Brewery in a Bunker”. Our bunker home, we understand, was originally built to withstand a potential nuclear attack during the Cold War but fortunately never had to serve that purpose.
In 2021, the Titsey Estate Company purchased a majority stake in the Brewery in order to fund the next stage of growth. With the increased resources, the Brewery has recently expanded once again into its purpose built, new & improved home on Clarke’s Lane Farm in Tatsfield. With more space, more kit and a taproom, there is now even more scope for us to expand the range of beers.
The Surrey Hills views
The Surrey Hills views from outside the brewery and taproom are spectacular and as we continue to welcome beer lovers from all over the south, we have big plans and ambitions for the future.
Titsey Brewing Co’s first three beers, Gower Wolf, Leveson Buck and Gresham Hopper, have proven hugely popular with drinkers since they were first launched, and they have since been joined by the crisply refreshing Innes Lager.
With alcohol levels below 4% ABV across the core range, Titsey’s tipples make for perfect session beers that are still packed full of character and flavour.
Having escaped the city for the Surrey countryside, when he’s not brewing there is nothing Craig loves more than hurtling down the area’s mountain biking tracks and heading off for adventures in the hills.
This adventurous spirit is part of everything Titsey Brewing Co does, so it’s no surprise that our beers have proven just as popular with mountain bikers, cyclists and walkers seeking refreshment as they have beer festival revellers and pub drinkers.
Our Heritage
The Titsey Estate, near Oxted, is one of the largest surviving historic estates in Surrey and the families who have lived there have been among the county’s most powerful residents.
To give you a quick glimpse of the history, the Titsey Estate was acquired in 1534 by Sir John Gresham who was a member of one of the most prominent merchant dynasties in Tudor England and was later named Lord Mayor of London. You’ll still see signs of his family symbol, the Gresham Grasshopper, in prominent locations around London today, including above the Royal Exchange in the City of London which was founded by his nephew Sir Thomas Gresham.
William Leveson-Gower married the heiress Katherine-Maria Gresham in 1804 and the family continued to live at Titsey Place until 1992, when the last of four unmarried brothers, Thomas Leveson-Gower died.
The Estate then passed to his ward David Innes, who became the Governor of the Titsey Foundation, which is responsible for the house and surrounding parkland. The Innes family have links to the brewing trade both through John Topham-Richardson, one of the major nineteenth century Southwark hop merchants as well as the Reids of Watney, Combe Reid & Co.
Majority owned by the Titsey Estate Company, Titsey Brewing Co takes inspiration from this rich heritage to produce our delicious beers – and we’re found only a short bike ride or countryside walk away from the historic house.
